liquid, part one

Another little project that I've been working on:liquid. Particularly, ambiguous liquid. I'll leave the explanation at that for the moment.

self-objectification

These are selections from my final project for intermediate photography. This was an independent project and I had to write a proposal, so to explain I will just include an excerpt from that proposal/artist statement:

"Beginning with my Framing and Portrait projects during Basic Photography last spring I have been intensely interested in three distinct, though deeply inter-referential, ideas. These are, generally, concepts and exploration of self-perception...and human relation, connection and conversely, isolation and objectification. I have, in some way or other, been exploring these ideas and questions in all my photographic endeavors to date. My idea, then, for my final, independent project is to do a self-portrait project, which attempts to confront the following questions: how do we perceive ourselves?...What is the line between exploitation and expression? Do photographs automatically objectify and isolate their subjects?"

These photos, along with the others not shown where, were presented against a white wall in a large collage including prints ranging in size from 4x6 to 16x20.

note: There were quite a few other photos that I am choosing not to include here for various reasons, so these few are not in any way the full extent of this project, but a limited selection.

home, part one

Just a little project I'm working on about ideas and images of home. Pretty simple concept, but it has been nagging at me for a while so I thought I'd try it. I've spent most of my life calling more than one place home so that word holds deep and complex meaning for me.

tech specs: these are digital photos originally taken in color but later converted to black and white.

morsel

The apple photo booth application is a bit of cliche these days (to say the least), but it can occasionally have some interesting results. In that spirit I present to you a few tasty morsels from my photo booth.

expansion

So I have to create a Flickr account for my intermediate photo class and I thought I'd put a link to it up on here. Not many photos up there yet, and no new work as of yet, but it felt silly not to put a link to it up on here. But then again I'm a bit of a silly person...

photo shoot

These images aren't particularly artistic in and of themselves, but I thought I'd give ya'll a taste of what it looks like when I do a self-portrait photo shoot. The plastic chord with the grenade looking thing that's in my hand is a 20ft air-pressure cable release, my newest photo toy.

gone bananas

Bananas, whole wheat bread, peanut butter, and honey.

the meal I always turned up my nose at when I was ten looks pretty damn good these days.

Real Holga

What I actually did, with some amount of seriousness, for my Holga Project.
I stayed pretty simple with this one. Just two diptychs focusing on light and motion.

Bad Art Comics

My friend/classmate Lyle and I put together a little satire-esque project to have some fun with the idea of making a really bad "art" narrative/comic strip for our photo project using Holgas. The images are (intentionally) not printed perfectly and are meant to be cheesy and kind of emo.

BAD ART COMIC
By Lyle + Devin

I waited for you.

I looked for you in every little corner.

Then I began to wonder if you were coming at all.

It was only in my dreams that I found you.
